Darryl Adams
Director-at-Large, African American, Norwalk-La Mirada USD
Elected to CSBA's Board of Directors in December 2013, Darryl Adams, a board member for the Norwalk-La Mirada school district, is the Director-at-Large African American for the California School Boards Association. He served as a member of CSBA's 2011 Annual Conference Committee and on the Policy Platform Committee.
Adams is the most tenured school board member in Norwalk-La Mirada history, having first been elected in 1993 as part of a referendum and has since been re-elected an unprecedented four times. He's served as the Board President four times, with the distinction of having been President during the first year of the last two superintendents. As a board member, he has championed the causes of students and employees alike and believes that all students should have equal access to a rigorous curriculum.
A graduate of USC with a B.A. in political science, Adams started his career working for current California Governor Jerry Brown. Adams taught in Norwalk-La Mirada for eight years prior to his election as a school board member. He has continued as an educator and is currently employed at South East High School in LAUSD. He has been awarded the PTSA Honorary Service Award, "Who's Who Amongst American Teachers," and Norwalk Citizen of the Year finalist. Adams has served as an advisor, educator and coach in the community for more than 25 years.
