CSBA salutes school board members during national recognition month
Published: January 16, 2013
During January, appreciative thanks go out to all CSBA school board members for their hard work and dedication to the schoolchildren of California. CSBA President Cindy Marks adds a personal note to the commemoration here.
Initiated by the National School Boards Association in 1995, School Board Recognition Month is a time for school districts, county offices of education and others to recognize the contributions of local school board members. Details about this monthlong observance and additional resources can be found here.
“School board members are ordinary people who have an extraordinary dedication to our public schools. What better time than this month—School Board Recognition Month—to reinforce to your constituents, the public at large and lawmakers about the importance of local school governance,” Marks said, expanding on her written message.
CSBA members are urged to share their personal testimonials about why they serve as school board members through Stand Up For Education, an initiative of CSBA to share good news about public schools and public school students.
“Every CSBA member has an extraordinary story to share about why he/she serves on the board of a local district or county office of education. By sharing your story, you help to educate the public about the value of local governance and encourage members of the community to Stand Up for Education. Your personal testimonial, logged as a blog on the new Stand Up For Education website, may inspire others to get more involved in their local school or district,” Marks added.
