Board Member Action Day coming May 10
Clear your calendars for Friday, May 10—CSBA’s Board Member Action Day for 2013!
Published: April 1, 2013
Board Member Action Day is CSBA’s statewide grassroots strategy to give California’s K-12 governance teams a direct link to their legislators. That day, CSBA members from across the state will meet in teams with their state representatives in the local district offices.
CSBA staff will coordinate all legislator meetings and will prepare all handouts and materials you will need to ensure an effective meeting with your state legislators. Learn more about the event and hear from members who participated last year by visiting csba.org. Registration closes on May 1 for both the May 10 event and the one-hour training webcast on May 3.
Gov. Jerry Brown’s bid to reshape school finance through his Local Control Funding Formula is the lynchpin of his 2013-14 budget proposal, and there are other bills that directly affect the issues school board members confront continually—see a sample here.
This year marks CSBA’s second annual Board Member Action Day, a successor to the Legislative Action Conference that brought CSBA members to Sacramento to lobby. CSBA President Cindy Marks praised the new approach, based on her experience when meeting with Assembly Member Kristin M. Olsen, R-Modesto, last year.
“She asked many questions. She wanted more specifics, more stories … about how education is being impacted by the bills that they make,” Marks said. “CSBA will put together all the tools that you need … so that when you come in with your message, that message will be more powerful and more effective.” Learn more about Mark’s experience last year and register for the event here.
