CSBA’s Education Legal Alliance (“ELA”) initiates and supports litigation in cases of statewide significance to all California schools. Working with school law attorneys throughout the state, the Education Legal Alliance is a powerful force in the courts and has proven highly effective in both saving and gaining schools millions of dollars in funding and protecting the rights of local governing boards.
Who We Are
The ELA is a consortium of over 700 dues-paying school districts, county offices of education and ROC/Ps that have joined together to aid and defend the interests of school districts, county offices of education, and ROC/Ps in California. What We Do
Since 1992 CSBA’s ELA has successfully pursued and defended the broad spectrum of statewide public education interests in the courts and before state agencies by:
- Initiating civil litigation and administrative actions
- Filing amicus briefs and letters with state and federal courts to support school districts and county offices of education in their litigation
- Analyzing and challenging legislation and regulations
- Providing updates on ELA cases to ELA members
Decisions involving the ELA’s support for matters of statewide interest are made by a Steering Committee composed of board members, superintendents, and education and political experts. The Committee is supported by the ELA Attorney Advisory Committee composed of prominent education law attorneys in California.
