Santa Clara USD trustee Albert Gonzalez ascends to CSBA presidency

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Executive Committee is rounded out by President-elect Bettye Lusk, Vice President Debra Schade and Immediate Past President Susan Markarian

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Nov. 30, 2023) – Santa Clara Unified School District board member and current California School Boards Association (CSBA) President-elect Albert Gonzalez was elected by the association’s Delegate Assembly as its 2024 President. CSBA represents more than 1,000 California school districts and county offices of education and more than 5,000 local educational area trustees.

A graduate of California public schools at the elementary, secondary and postsecondary levels, Gonzalez earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and works as an engineer. He has served as a Santa Clara USD trustee for 15 years including two years as board president, and also been elected president of the Santa Clara County School Boards Association. Gonzalez’s numerous roles at CSBA include President-elect, Vice President, Regional Director for Santa Clara County, chair of the Bylaws and Finance Committee, and a member of the Board Development, Audit, Legislative, Nominating and Annual Education Conference committees.

“Public education has been vital for my life and is the only way we can make the United States an even better union. It’s critical that all students of California not only have the opportunities that I had, but even more, so that we can really close the opportunity gap,” Gonzalez said. “My background as an English learner, first-generation college student and person of Latino descent allows me to understand and empathize with the largest group of students in California’s TK-12 schools, while giving back and helping to produce positive outcomes for all the students in our public school system.”

Gonzalez officially assumes the role of 2024 CSBA President on the final day of the organization’s 2023 Annual Education Conference and Trade Show, held in San Francisco from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2. Joining Gonzalez on CSBA’s 2024 Executive Committee are President-elect Bettye Lusk from Monterey Peninsula USD and Vice President Debra Schade from the Solana Beach School District. Susan Markarian of the Pacific Union Elementary School District will serve as Immediate Past President.
