California School Boards Association Responds to Death of El Monte School Board Member

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Sacramento, Calif. – The California School Boards Association called upon President Obama and Governor Schwarzenegger today to urge the governments of Mexico and the State of Durango to conduct a full and complete investigation into the tragic murder of Augustin Roberto “Bobby” Salcedo, a school board member for the El Monte City School District.

“The loss of Mr. Salcedo is a tragedy, and a great loss for his family, friends, and school colleagues,” said CSBA Executive Director, Scott P. Plotkin.  “He served as a role model for many, and his work as a school board member and school administrator in El Monte made a difference in the lives of many students and children.”

Salcedo, the son of Mexican immigrants, was a shining example of the American success story, and a manifestation of the California dream.  His dedication to public education and his efforts to ensure that California students have access to that education, from preschool to the university, set an example that all of us would do well to follow.
