On Sept. 18, the Coalition for Adequate School Housing and Californians for Quality Schools announced that a school facilities bond initiative, titled the “Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016” has gathered the necessary signatures and is qualified for the November 2016 general election ballot. If this bond measure passes, a total of $9 billion ($7 billion to K-12 and $2 billion to community colleges) would be allocated for existing facilities upgrade projects and construction of new facilities. “We applaud the efforts of C.A.S.H. and Californians for Quality Schools to help ensure that the state remains an active partner in school facilities construction and upgrades,” said Dennis Meyers, CSBA assistant executive director, governmental relations. “Numerous school sites in California are in dire need of upkeep and repair, and the quality of the education the state provides for its six million students directly hinges on the ability to offer appropriate, up-to-date facilities. We will continue to closely monitor the progress of this initiative.” In a press statement, Californians for Quality Schools referenced a 2014
study that showed 63 percent of likely voters would favor passing a $9 billion bond measure for school facilities. The full text of the bond initiative can be found
