New resources can help board members talk to parents about the state standards
Published: November 10, 2015
The Consortium for the Implementation of the Common Core State Standards, with input from CSBA, has guided the development of two new documents to assist school governance leaders, teachers, site administrators and parents/guardians with the implementation of California’s new academic content standards.
“The Executive Summary:
Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools, K-12” includes grade- and course-level chapters that provide examples of what standards-based instruction and learning look like. Other chapters focus on access, instructional strategies, assessment and support for high-quality instruction. “The Executive Summary:
English Language Arts/English Language Development Framework for California Public Schools, K-12” includes descriptive snapshots and vignettes of grade-level instruction, integrating the state standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in history/social studies, science and technical subjects.
Both frameworks should be especially helpful for board members who want to talk to parents/guardians about the new standards and curriculum.
Download both documents on the Sacramento County Office of Education website.
