CSBA enhances transparency, accountability

CSBA’s Board of Directors took further action at an Aug. 17 special meeting to enhance the fiscal transparency and accountability of the association.

After the meeting, the Board of Directors released a statement taking full responsibility for actions and decisions related to the compensation of the executive director, noting that those decisions in recent years—while made with the goals of retention and recognition of past performance and accomplishments on behalf of CSBA—were not consistent with the circumstances that member school districts and county offices of education are currently facing.

“Moving forward,” the statement notes, “we are taking actions to become more transparent and engage in active and comprehensive oversight.”

At the meeting, the board took the following actions:

  • Called for the creation of a Financial Accountability page link under the Spotlight section at www.csba.org. The web page includes copies of CSBA’s IRS Form 990 filings; the association’s consolidated financial statements; an outlined history of executive director and executive staff compensation; and recent updates from CSBA President Frank Pugh.
  • Directed staff to initiate the process to contract for an independent financial accountability review and an independent and comprehensive compensation review.

The board called a special meeting for Sept. 17-18. In addition to further discussion of the above items, the search process for an Executive Director will be on the agenda.
