Forecast Webcast to lead off CSBA 2011 events

CSBA’s two-hour Forecast Webcast goes out live over the Internet starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13—just days after California’s next governor is due to propose a new state budget. CSBA Assistant Executive Director of Governmental Relations Rick Pratt will assess that and other possible legislative and regulatory developments. Christopher Thornberg, founding principal of the nationally regarded Beacon Economics consulting firm, will once again add his insights on the state’s economy.

The complimentary Forecast is among the best bargains around—all it requires is a couple hours’ time, an Internet connection and advance registration. Other in-demand CSBA events will begin traveling the state soon afterward, bringing expert information to convenient locations in formats that draw on participants’ personal insights. They include:

Brown Act Workshops: Attorneys with extensive experience in this open government law’s application to school boards will present these helpful workshops at six sites around the state. Each will begin at 5:30 p.m. and go for three hours. Registration is $145.

Board Presidents’ Workshops: CSBA governance consultants Leslie DeMersseman and Luan Rivera (both former presidents of CSBA and their local school boards) explore proven techniques for conducting meaningful meetings while keeping boards focused on student learning. Registration is $195 in advance, $205 on site. Where applicable, Presidents Workshops can be combined with Brown Act Workshops at a special rate of $290.

Institutes for New and First-term Board Members: These innovative, two-day seminars led by school governance experts are an excellent opportunity for newer trustees to gain an understanding of their unique role and responsibilities. Each day’s session goes from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $255 in advance, $265 on site.
