SBM Advancing Budget Priorities and Advocacy

Monday, April 7, 2025   5:30 pm - 8:00 pm     Advancing Budget Priorities and Advocacy

Join us for an advanced 2.5-hour mini-training tailored exclusively for California student school board members. Building on previous training, this session will delve deeper into the roles and responsibilities of student trustees in setting budget priorities aligned with the Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP) and Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). Discover effective strategies for seeking input from students, school administrators, teachers, and community members to identify funding opportunities and support student outcomes and success. Learn how to leverage this information for impactful advocacy and policy change at the district level.

 

Learning Objectives:

 

Deepening Understanding of Budget Priorities: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of student trustees in setting budget priorities aligned with the LCAP and LCFF.

 

Exploring Stakeholder Engagement Strategies: Learn effective strategies for seeking input and soliciting feedback from diverse stakeholders, including students, school administrators, teachers, and community members.

 

Identifying Funding Opportunities: Develop skills to identify funding opportunities to support student outcomes and success, including innovative programs, grants, and community partnerships.

 

Advocacy Techniques for Policy Change: Explore advocacy strategies for using input from stakeholders to advocate for policy changes at the district level, including effective communication, coalition-building, and grassroots organizing.

 

Building Coalitions and Partnerships: Understand the importance of building coalitions and partnerships with stakeholders to amplify student voices and advance policy priorities.

Registration closes on April 7, 2025.

CSBA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any event if the required attendance minimums are unmet. Attendance minimums are set to ensure fiscal responsibility for the use of public funds for training. The minimum attendance for the Student Board Member training event is 20 participants.
