Sacramento, CA—Senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) announced that he will be joined by crime victim’s rights groups representatives from the California School Boards Association (CSBA) at a press conference to unveil Senate Bill (SB) 843, legislation that will better protect children by reforming the teacher dismissal process.
WHEN: Wednesday, February 26 at 11 a.m.
WHERE: State Capitol Building, Room 113
WHO: Senator Lou Correa; Josephine Lucey, CSBA President; Vernon M. Billy, CSBA Executive Director & CEO; Sheila Boxley, President & CEO of the Child Abuse Prevention Center; and representatives from victim’s rights groups.
Last year, CSBA successfully worked to have AB 375 vetoed as it would have made it more difficult to remove a teacher that posed a threat to student safety. When Governor Brown vetoed the bill, he wrote that AB 375 was “an imperfect solution” and encouraged “the Legislature to continue working with stakeholders to identify changes that are balanced and reduce procedural complexities.”
Senator Correa and CSBA answered the Governor’s directive with SB 843 that simplifies the teacher dismissal process in cases where the student’s safety is in jeopardy.
