Director, Strategic Initiatives & Development
David DeLuz is the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Development for CSBA. In this capacity, he works directly with the CEO/Executive Director on agency-wide initiatives, providing policy analysis, research and recommendations relating to critical education issues. DeLuz came to CSBA in 2013 from the Greater Sacramento Urban League, where he served for four years as president and chief executive officer of the regional workforce training, education and economic development organization. DeLuz has also served as an adjunct professor of government and public administration at California State University, Sacramento and Fullerton, as well as the director of communications for the Grant Joint Union High School District in Sacramento.
DeLuz began his career as a legislative analyst with the California State Parks and the Department of Corrections, moving on to serve as a consultant in the California State Senate. He later served as a gubernatorial appointee in the governor's office as a deputy appointments secretary, and later as an assistant director in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The Richmond, California native earned a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; Master of Public Policy and Administration degree from California State University, Sacramento; and a Master of Politics degree from Claremont Graduate University.
