Selection is key:

On average, over the past five years, one out of every 10 California school districts has selected a new superintendent. Just as a person's "track record" is extremely important in hiring new personnel, that track record is equally important in every aspect of hiring a search firm or outside consultant. CSBA's Executive Search Services can boast that through our service: 98 percent of the superintendents hired in the last two years are still in place; 89 percent of the superintendents hired in the last five years are still in place; and 29 percent of the superintendents selected in the last five years were women and 18 percent were minorities.

Unique features of a CSBA search:

We develop and execute a comprehensive search timeline. We involve stakeholders in establishing criteria and a leadership profile. We include stakeholders in the process as an advisory panel, if desired by the board. From our ethnically diverse team of current and former superintendents and educators, an adviser will be selected to work with the board throughout the search process. We utilize a network of contacts and the expertise of our consultants team to recruit candidates who most closely match the leadership profile developed by the board. We provide extensive screening and reference checks on finalists, measured against the leadership profile.
