Cupertino Board of Education Member Josephine Lucey Elected Vice President of the California School Boards Association

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN DIEGO, CA—Cupertino Union School District board member Josephine “Jo” Lucey was elected vice president of the California School Boards Association at the organization’s Delegate Assembly in San Diego December 1.

“I am very thankful for this honor,” said Lucey.  “Nothing is more valuable to our future than the education of our children, and CSBA is one of the premier voices for public education in California.  As vice president, I plan to foster a focused, collaborative approach between CSBA’s board of directors, its delegates, and local school board members, so that we can effectively work together to remind Sacramento that education funding is a reflection of our values.”

A retired business executive in the aerospace industry, Lucey has served on CSBA’s board of directors since 2009 and has been a member of the organization’s conference planning, board development, diversity, and nominating committees.

“Jo’s tenure as a school board member in Cupertino, her leadership role in the Santa Clara County School Boards Association, and her service as a member of CSBA’s delegate assembly and board of directors have provided her a broad range of leadership and governance experience,” said CSBA President Martha Fluor.  “I’m looking forward to collaborating with Jo, our executive director, and the rest of the executive committee in the year ahead.”

Lucey was elected to the Cupertino board 10 years ago and has served as president and vice president during that time.  She has also chaired fundraising committees to pass parcel taxes to fund public education in Santa Clara County in 2009 and 2011 and has been an active member of the Santa Clara County School Boards Association.

Lucey lives in Santa Clara County with her husband and has two children.
