Procedure, not policy, discussed in motions to repeal cap on local reserves

26 August 2014 - Last week saw a flurry of activity in support of efforts to repeal the cap on local district reserves. Assembly Bill 146, by Assembly Member Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) and co-author Sen. Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield), was introduced at a press conference on Aug. 18.

Bill to restore school district reserve authority announced at Capitol press conference

19 August 2014 - CSBA joined a statewide coalition at a press conference at the Capitol on Monday, Aug. 18, in support of Assembly Bill 146, introduced by Assembly Republican Leader-Elect Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) and Sen. Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield). If enacted, AB 146 would restore the ability of school districts to save money in their local reserve accounts by repealing statutory language added last minute to the state budget education trailer bill, which requires school districts to spend down their reserves to imprudent levels.

Action required as the future of school facilities bond is in jeopardy

13 August 2014 - Monday’s hearing in the Senate Appropriations Committee on AB 2235 (Buchanan, D-Alamo), the school facilities bond measure targeted for the November ballot, shed more light on just how difficult the next couple of days will be for the bill.
